Vice-President of Engineering

This key member of the management team will provide the strategic and tactical foundation by which all FM tech initiatives are run. With a direct reporting relationship to the Chief Architect, this position will oversee these key areas:

Strategy — A core duty of this position is to work with senior management and the Board of Directors to set the strategic roadmap and relay that vision to the rest of the company.

FM Platform — FM has developed a proprietary platform that provides advertisers, agencies, and publishers the ability to monitor and measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns as well as the revenue generated from those campaigns. The ongoing development of this platform requires a dynamic, iterative build process as new business needs are discovered.

Internal Process — Build the team and help outline a sustainable process to grow with them. The engineering group must grow this year to match the expectations of the senior management. Organizing the team to meet those expectations is a huge component of this position.

Third Party Relationships — FM’s platform integrates a number of technical 3rd parties and continues to evaluate new partners frequently. This role requires not only the technical understanding of these partners but the business sense to identify those worth engaging with.

Conversational Marketing Database — Our latest product is still in its infancy, and needs the strategic and technical vision to keep it relevant and useful for our advertising partners. This means having an understanding of current trends in the advertising industry and technical knowledge to charge their team to develop it.

The ideal candidate would have a distinguished history of employing open source solutions and a background of leading and participating in teams with agile development principles. We are a fast moving engineering group and require someone with a clear vision of online marketing’s future, as well as the practical experience of guiding an engineering team to its goals.

Requirements

  • Experienced with PHP, MySQL, and Open Source environments
  • Experience with developing proprietary frameworks
  • Comfortable with the Unix command-line
  • Solid understanding of object oriented techniques
  • Understanding of a product life-cycle in an agile development environment
  • At least three years in an engineering management role
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Must have permission to work in the US

Regional Sales Manager

The Regional Sales Manager is responsible for maintaining and building advertising revenue for both existing key accounts and developing new opportunities within a large territory in partnership with an Account Executive. Ideal candidates will have a solid understanding of brand marketing as well as ways to position a large portfolio of brands to senior level marketers. The candidate must demonstrate a passion for online media and a firm comprehension of how the web is impacting media consumption and audience participation as well as an ability to think creatively and sell strategically. They will have a strong desire to win, and to continually develop their personal and professional skills. They must establish in person relationships with clients by conducting a high volume of face to face calls building credibility in the marketplace. The Regional Sales Manager will conduct a regular analysis of territory including accurate revenue forecasts and complete regular call reports to update sales management on account activity. This position reports to the Sales Director.

Responsibilities

  • Establish Federated Media as the clear leader in Conversational Media & Marketing
  • Develop and execute account and territory strategies for long term development and revenue growth
  • Provide clients with a true consultative sales experience and engagement results.
  • Take strategic lead to prioritize and ensure proper account management both internally and externally
  • Secure strategic level relationships with client/agency contacts
  • Coordinate with and direct Sales Coordinator in resolving territory maintenance issues
  • Be the territory liaison for multiple internal teams
  • Accurate and timely communication to Sales Director of all relevant information regarding revenue and or advertiser relationships

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have a strong understanding of conversational media online. They will understand the new dynamics of today's online media landscape. They will demonstrate an ability to think creatively, sell strategically, and communicate efficiently internally and externally. They will have a strong desire to win, keep their territories organized, and continually develop their personal and professional skills.

  • 5 years advertising sales experience
  • 2 years of Internet sales preferred
  • Proven success with brand marketers and agencies
  • Deep experience into the elements that go into successful online campaigns
  • Engaging leadership style who values teamwork and development
  • Have the ability to manage stress well, and juggle multiple account challenges at once
  • BA/BS or equivalent training and experience

Sales: Account Executive

We're looking for a high-energy account executive with at least 3 years of online advertising sales experience. The perfect candidate has existing relationships with media buyers and advertising clients. Required skills include fluency with media-buying terminology (eg, CPM v. CPA, reach v. frequency, GIF v. Flash), familiarity with online ad-serving platforms (eg, Doubleclick's Mediavisor), proficiency with Excel and Powerpoint. Must be a clear and concise communicator. The position will report to FM's VP of sales & market development. This position is open in our New York and San Francisco offices.

Experienced PHP / MySQL Developer

Our engineering team is seeking a talented and dedicated person to help build the next generation of our advertising platform. We're looking for someone who has experience working in a fast paced environment, and who is willing to lead large projects to completion. Experience with blogs and blogging software a plus. Job location is at the corner of the Embarcadero and Harrison (atop The Hills Bros. Building), about a five minute walk from the Ferry Building.

We are looking for an outstanding junior or senior engineer with the following qualifications:

  • Experienced PHP/MySQL developer
  • Familiar with Javascript, CSS and cross-platform browser issues
  • Comfortable with command line, and configuring own Linux desktop
  • Solid understanding of object oriented techniques
  • Solid understanding of a product development life-cycle
  • Solid understanding of design, coding and testing patterns
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, test-driven and iterative programming environment
  • Strong understanding of server side software, security, scalability, performance and reliability
  • 2 plus years of industry experience
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Must have permission to work in the US

Bonus qualifications:

  • Javascript experience
  • jQuery experience
  • CSS debugging skills
  • SVN or similar version control system experience
  • Experience with blogs and blogging software
